Abstract

The Q204X myostatin allele was identified by an allelic discrimination assay using DNA from 34 Charbray bulls under performance testing in northwest Mexico. A total of 9.3 % of the bulls were heterozygotic Q204X allele carriers and gene frequency was 5 %. This is the first report of the Q204X allele in Charbray cattle in Mexico.
