Bacterias patógenas oportunistas en la microbiota de Apis mellifera en localidades con diferente uso de suelo en el estado de Hidalgo

Resumen

La microbiota intestinal cumple una función esencial en los procesos fisiológicos y en la resistencia a enfermedades de las abejas. El estudio de la comunidad microbiana intestinal de la abeja de la miel (Apis mellifera) puede proporcionar información clave sobre los factores ambientales que influyen en la salud de las colonias. Como primer acercamiento para evaluar si esta comunidad se ve afectada por el cambio de uso de suelo derivado de las actividades humanas, se compararon la abundancia y composición de especies de bacterias patógenas oportunistas en la microbiota intestinal de abejas de la miel de dos localidades, una de carácter rural con presencia agrícola y otra urbana, en el estado de Hidalgo, México. La carga bacteriana total en la microbiota intestinal de las abejas no difirió significativamente entre sitios; sin embargo, se detectó un mayor número de especies de bacterias patógenas oportunistas en el paisaje urbano, posiblemente asociado a mayores fuentes de colonización bacteriana. Se identificaron ocho especies de bacterias patógenas oportunistas de abejas y humanos, destacando Hafnia alvei, reconocida como agente de mortalidad en abejas adultas y reportada aquí por primera vez en la microbiota de abejas en México. Estos resultados sugieren que A. mellifera puede utilizarse como bioindicador ambiental y resaltan la necesidad de profundizar en el estudio de la relación entre la microbiota intestinal y uso del suelo para comprender mejor las amenazas que enfrenta esta especie en el país.
